A SWISS Escape (part 2)

Saturday, December 11, 2021

Here’s a continuation of my Swiss trip which focuses on my stay in Zurich and the filming locations of the hit k-drama “Crash Landing On You”. Special thanks to my friends in the BinJin fandom, Andy for her local Swiss tips and O for creating a Google map of CLOY filming sites. I wasn’t able to go to those places in Interlaken and Iseltwald but I mostly got all the Zurich sites covered (plus Sigriswil!)

And as I trace the steps of Yoon Seri and Ri Jeong Hyeok, I have to say that it’s very nostalgic and heart-fluttering all at once! 💓

(07OCT21) Zurich may not be the country’s capital but it is the largest metropolis and the nation’s center of finance. Apart from its wealthy background, the whole Old Town is beyond stunning. It’s like I’ll never get tired from seeing the same lakes, crossing bridges and walking on cobbled stones all the time! Now this gives a reason why CLOY was filmed here :”)

I toured at my own pace since the attractions can be accessible by foot or tram. With the use of the Swiss Travel Pass (which I’ve mentioned on the previous entry), I got unlimited transport rides.

On the other hand, looking for where to eat somehow became my struggle since majority are expensive cafes or fine-dining restos! So basically, I tried 2 restos, a café, and the rest come from small food shops or convenience stores which have good must-eats too!Like a pain au chocolat or pizza sub for 1CHF (Swiss Francs)?!

Eclair, Ham Croissant and Milkafee(with macaroon) from Confiserie Sprüngli

But never leave Switzerland without trying their famous La Gruyere Cheese Fondue. It may look simple with bread & chicken bits to be dipped in a melted cheese pot, but this meal can make you feel full already! This one is from Hotel Adler and I tried their fondue mixed with white wine. It was delicious ^^

And now, the CLOY scenes…

MÃœNSTER BRIDGE- Known as the historical pedestrian bridge in Zurich Old Town. It’s certainly the perfect place for Seri to wander and wait for Jeong Hyeok! Her monologue on that scene truly suits this dreamy ambiance. Even I kept crossing it just to appreciate the view (and think of things haha!) ;D

Another shot of the site during Seo Dan and Jeong Hyeok's dates.

PARADEPLATZ—Besides being the tramline center of where YSR and Seo Dan arrived, this is also the area of several Swiss bank headquarters. The roundabout of the trams are something to be admired of here. And if you go straight this path, you’ll reach the shopping district: Bahnofstrasse.

Call it like London’s Oxford Circus Street or Paris’ Champ Elysees, Bahnofstrasse is the posh shopping strip of Zurich. Most of the shops are of their local brand; I enjoyed my moments of strolling there but as for shopping? Well, better remind yourself that this is a very expensive country. ;p

AUGUSTINERGASSE- One of the small outskirts in the Old Town filled with cafés, it is where RJH and Seo Dan strolls in the drama. Sadly, I didn’t see any of the hanging Swiss flags that were used to be decorated there ☹️

HELVETIA STATUE, LINDENHOF- Helvetia is the symbolic figure of the country which can also be seen in their paper money and coins. This park on top of the random alleys in Old Town Zurich is so beautiful. People at that time were either taking pictures with the autumn trees or playing chess. Though there was no piano on site, this was the scene where Yoon Seri thought of RJH playing the instrument in public.

From here, you can also see the whole Zurich from above. 🖤

SCHWEIZER HEIMATWERK- I expected this to be a confectionery store but it’s more of a craft souvenir shop of Swiss specialties like woodworks, cuckoo clocks and knives.

Seri recommended Seo Dan to buy KitKat but in reality, nope. I didn’t see any sweet meats at all! Haha.

Where to buy souvenirs in Switzerland? If not in Jungfraujoch, head on to Teddy’s Store in Zurich! Their souvenir shirts and hoodies are very nice.

KLEINE SCHEIDEGG- I didn’t get to tour the place as I only took off here when we’re about to go to Lauterbrunnen. Though little have I heard that those alps on the background were the ones stared by YSR and RJH during their soul-searching (minus the paragliders). Now that made me think, are they heading towards the “Top of Europe” too?!

LAKE BRIENZ- I only saw this lake while speeding off to Jungfraujoch so this was taken on the bus. Just like the alps, I wonder how they can they differentiate all these crystal bodies of water around Interlaken?! Anyway, YSR took her cruise tour here. *cue in “The Song For My Brother”*

SIGRISWIL PANORAMIC BRIDGE- the most iconic CLOY attraction that I have ever gone. Call me exaggerating but it was such a brave act for me to navigate my way there! I was weighing my options if it’s worth the hour to travel that far or rather go to nearby locations instead; Subsequently, I thought that I might regret it if I don’t take the former and so, this happened.~

It was a 3hr travel period going to Sigriswil from Zurich. I took this SBB double-decked train going to Thun followed by a bus ride leading to the said destination. The train ride was awesome that it even passed by the country’s capital, Bern. I don’t know but I felt like this is better than London’s National Rail. Haha! ;p

Sigriswil is surrounded by a lot of pretty chalets too as it is situated near Interlaken. Die-hard CLOY fans like me would really be over the moon when they see the bridge but generally, it’s just a typical suspension steeled-bridge known to be the longest and highest ever built in Swiss. It costs 8CHF to cross in it which is reasonable for preservation purposes. Luckily, it wasn’t crowded when I arrived so I took loads of pictures from the bottom of my fangirl heart.

My funko pop babies came along! 🥰

A CLOY memorial was suppose to be placed here but it's gone now..They should have retained it! :((

My mind can’t stop whirring that omg, I’m in a place where Jeong Hyeok asks Seri to take a picture of him and Seo Dan!! And Yoon Seri reciting her death note?! My goddd!! I suddenly realized there that she’s really not in the right mind to jump off that bridge.

‘Cause damn, look how low can she go. ;( Though I love the breathtaking views of the mountains and villas.

And that’s a wrap for my birthday trip to Switzerland! Similar to my other solo travels, I will be forever grateful that this finally achieved as it also took a toll to my fangirl goals! TYL and to more adventures soon ^.^

I’m currently back in the Philippines and I have a local trip coming up to start the new year. Stay tuned!
‘til then!
