8/10: Bohemian Rhapsody

All thoughts are of my own. I just decided to try doing a movie review for a change aside from the need to enhance my writing skills ;) Perhaps I'll make another one soon after this.

My family and I watched “Bohemian Rhapsody” last Friday (111618).Generally, I don’t really have any expectations from this movie; not even a fact that it depicts a real-life story. (But of course, I’m familiar with the band) It just entered its 2nd week and the theatre was still in full house! Hence, this movie must be really good—-so good that it can make you sing along with the onscreen lyrics.Hahaha

The story began from the young Farrou aka Freddie Mercury who introduced himself over a band whose lead singer left the group. He shared one of his compositions and from there, they tried to perform onstage which was appreciated by the audience. Since then, they started to record and the process was pure genuine!Perhaps the best musical equalizer is by swinging the stereos :)) Another scene that I love is how they recorded “Bohemian Rhapsody”—the legendary 6-minute masterpiece. Aside from the song’s unusual length, the lyrics are extraordinary as well. I mean, what is “scarabush”? Lol.Though, lets admit that we all got carried away by its hardrock-opera tune despite its eccentricity. The film highlighted the group’s road to fame from showing their sold-out concerts and other popular hits.

Besides that, there was also Freddie’s first love: the lucky beautiful Mary. Their love affair started with a compliment on her coat! :)) Everything went perfect...until Paul Prenter came to the scene. I have been cursing when he gave that kiss to our protagonist here.Like, wtf?WHY?! And also Jim Huttle though he wasn't as badass as the latter. It’s too much of a plot twist.Yet kidding aside, I guess he wouldn’t be known if there wasn’t such a climax like that. From identity crisis to disowning the group. And at least, Mary kept him sane at the end—gave him the realization he needed despite his sexuality. But the moment when he announced about his illness was another disappointment :( Nevertheless, it was such a proud moment that he was still able to perform at the 1985 Live Aid concert.

Overall,it’s an 8/10 for me; I could’ve given it a perfect rating but there are some events that I just dislike. However, I enjoyed the film very much due to the songs and the actors whom played their parts so well. Rami definitely deserves an Oscar!
